See and stop screen recordings from the notch

While you record your screen, the notch shows a red recording indicator with a timer and a stop button. Then open or delete the video.

Checked against the app on

While you record

Start a recording with ⇧ ⌘ 5 or the Screenshot app. The notch shows that a recording is running, with how long it has been going. Open the notch and use the stop button to end it, instead of hunting for the stop icon in the menu bar.

When you stop

The notch shows the new recording. Open it to watch it, or delete it if you don’t need it.

Settings

In Settings → Screen Capture:

  • Screen recording live activity turns the indicator on or off.
  • Screen Recording Style: With Timer (the default) or Compact.
  • Use default activity stroke color keeps the outline white instead of red.
  • Recordings folder leaves recordings where macOS saves them unless you choose another folder; then NotchMind moves each new recording there.

Screen recording has the highest default priority, so it stays visible while you record. See activity priorities.
