The collapsed notch shows one live activity at a time. When two are active at once, it shows the one with the higher priority number. The other comes back when the first one ends.
The default order
| Activity | Default priority |
|---|---|
| Screen Recording | 10 |
| File converter | 9 |
| Calls | 9 |
| Calendar | 8 |
| Timer | 7 |
| Coding agents | 7 |
| Now Playing | 6 |
| AirDrop Transfer | 5 |
| Tray | 4 |
| Downloads | 3 |
| Hotspot | 2 |
| Focus | 1 |
When two have the same number, the one listed first wins. A coding agent that has just finished briefly shows above all of these so you know it’s your turn.
Change the order
- Open Settings → General → Notch → Activity priorities.
- Raise or lower the number next to an activity (0 to 20). Higher numbers win.
Each row shows its default so you can go back. Reset in the toolbar restores them all.
Some things always come first
While you drag files, while an update is ready to install, at the lock screen, and while you’re customizing Home, the notch shows those above every activity. Short alerts, like a charger connecting or AirPods pairing, appear briefly and then hand the notch back.
