When a calling app starts using your microphone, the notch shows the call: which app, how long it has run, whether the camera is on, and a mute button.
Which apps count
Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, FaceTime, Slack, Discord, Skype, WhatsApp, Telegram, Amazon Chime, GoTo Meeting, RingCentral, Around and Loom, plus calls in Chrome, Safari, Arc, Brave, Edge, Firefox, Vivaldi and Opera, which covers Google Meet and other web calls.
To also show it for any other app that records, such as a voice memo app, turn on Any app using the microphone in Settings → Meetings.
Mute and unmute
Open the notch during a call and choose Mute. NotchMind mutes the microphone itself, for every app at once, so it works the same in any calling app. Choose Unmute to turn it back on.
If you end a call while muted, NotchMind turns the microphone back on afterwards, so your next call doesn’t start silent. A microphone you muted yourself before the call is left alone.
Some microphones can’t be muted from software. Then the button says This microphone can’t be muted from here; use the mute control in your calling app.
Back to the call
Choose Show call to bring the calling app to the front.
Privacy
NotchMind never opens your microphone or camera. It asks macOS which app is using them. Camera on and Camera off reflect what macOS reports; NotchMind’s own camera page doesn’t count.
Turn it off
Turn off Calls in the notch in Settings → Meetings.
