Use NotchMind with an external display

Choose whether the notch follows your main display, stays on the built-in screen, moves with the pointer or stays on one monitor you pick.

Checked against the app on

NotchMind shows on one display at a time. On a MacBook with a notch it uses the real notch; on an external monitor it shows a small island at the top centre instead.

Choose the display

Open Settings → General → Notch → Display and pick one:

  • Show on main display: follows whichever display macOS treats as main, the one with the menu bar in System Settings → Displays. The default.
  • Show on built-in display: always uses your MacBook’s own screen, even with a monitor connected.
  • Show on a specific display: pins NotchMind to one display you choose from the list.
  • Display with the pointer: moves to whichever display your pointer is on.

Each display in the list is labelled Built-in, Main display or External display, and shows Unavailable while it’s disconnected.

When the chosen display is disconnected

With Automatically switch displays on, NotchMind uses the main display while the one you picked is away, then moves back when it returns. With it off, NotchMind stays hidden until that display comes back.

Good to know

NotchMind is built and tested on the built-in notch. Most features work on external displays, but we don’t promise the same experience there yet.
