The floating player is the notch’s music player in its own small glass window. It stays on top while music plays, so you can see and control the song without opening the notch.
Open it
Do any of these:
- In the notch’s player, click the pop-out button beside the equalizer (Pull the player out of the notch).
- Choose Floating Player in the menu bar icon’s menu.
- Turn on Floating player in Settings → Now Playing.
- Press the Floating Player shortcut, if you’ve set one in keyboard shortcuts.
Three sizes
Click the player to step through its sizes, or scroll up on it with two fingers to make it bigger and down to make it smaller.
| Size | Shows |
|---|---|
| Disc | A small turning record with a progress ring. |
| Card | Artwork, title and play controls in one row. |
| Stage | Large artwork, the full controls and synced lyrics. |
Move it and put it away
Drag the player anywhere on screen; it snaps to the nearest edge when you let go. Swipe sideways on the artwork to change song. To put it away, drag it onto the notch and let go; it tucks back in. The shortcut also shows or hides it.
When nothing is playing
The player says Nothing playing until music starts again. It also hides while your Mac is locked.
