Shaking a file doesn't open the Basket

How to shake a file so NotchMind's Basket appears, the setting that turns it off, and what to do when a file won't stay in the Basket.

Checked against the app on

The shake

Hold the file down and move it quickly left and right three or four times, a few centimetres each way, while you keep dragging. A slow wave doesn’t count; it should feel like shaking off water.

Check the setting

Basket in Settings → Drag&Drop must be on.

Where it works

The Basket opens for files dragged from Finder, the Desktop, Mail, browsers, Photos and most other apps. It doesn’t open for text or links you drag on their own.

A file doesn’t stay

  • Already in the basket means that file is already there or in the Tray.
  • Couldn’t keep that file means the app didn’t hand the file over. Save it to Finder first and drag it from there.

It opened by accident

If you shake files while dragging for other reasons, turn Basket off. The notch’s Tray still takes files at the top of the screen.
