Live activities, Home and alerts: how the notch decides what to show

The words NotchMind uses explained: live activities, short alerts, Home and its pages, priorities, and hiding an activity. How it all fits together.

Checked against the app on

The notch can show many things, but only one at a time. These are the pieces NotchMind uses to decide what.

Live activities

Something that’s happening right now and lasts a while: music playing, a timer counting down, a download, a call, a coding agent at work, a screen recording, a Personal Hotspot. A live activity stays in the collapsed notch until it ends, and opens into a full view when you hover.

Short alerts

A notice that appears and goes away by itself: the charger connecting, AirPods pairing, Wi‑Fi reconnecting, a VPN dropping, a drive ejected, a notification. Each has a duration you can set in its section of Settings, such as Bluetooth duration.

Home

What the notch shows when you open it and nothing else is going on: a row of pages like Music, Timer, Weather and Developer Tools. Swipe between them. See customize Home.

Priorities

When two live activities happen at once, the one with the higher priority number shows; the other comes back when the first ends. Screen recording, calls and the converter rank highest by default, Focus lowest. See activity priorities.

Things that always come first

Dragging files, an update ready to install, the lock screen and Customize Home show above everything, because you asked for them right then.

Hiding

Swipe up over the notch to hide the current activity for now; swipe down to bring it back. It keeps running while hidden. See swipe to hide.
