How to customize the Mac menu bar

Choose which icons appear in your Mac's menu bar, rearrange them, show the battery percentage, and keep the menu bar tidy on a MacBook with a notch.

System icons

System Settings → Control Centre lists Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, Sound, Battery, Focus and more. For each, choose Show in Menu Bar or Don’t Show.

Battery percentage

In the same place, under Battery, turn on Show Percentage.

Rearrange

Hold ⌘ and drag icons left or right. Drag one off the menu bar, still holding ⌘, to remove it.

App icons

On macOS 26 Tahoe, System Settings → Menu Bar lets you hide app icons. On older macOS, use each app’s own setting.

Clock

System Settings → Control Centre → Clock Options sets the date, seconds and 24-hour time.

With a notch

Space is limited to the right of the notch, and extra icons hide behind it. See menu bar icons hidden behind the notch. NotchMind, which I make, keeps its own menu one right-click away on the notch, so you can hide its menu bar icon in Settings → General → System.
