Mac connected to Wi‑Fi but no internet? How to fix it

When your Mac shows Wi‑Fi connected but nothing loads: check the router, renew the DHCP lease, forget the network, and run Wireless Diagnostics.

1. Is it just your Mac?

Check your phone on the same Wi‑Fi. If it can’t load anything either, restart the router.

2. Turn Wi‑Fi off and on

Click Wi‑Fi in the menu bar and switch it off and on.

3. Renew the DHCP lease

System Settings → Wi‑Fi → Details (next to your network) → TCP/IP → Renew DHCP Lease.

4. Forget and rejoin

In the same Details panel, choose Forget This Network, then join again with the password.

5. Check DNS

In Details → DNS, if there are custom servers you didn’t add, remove them, or try a public resolver.

6. Wireless Diagnostics

Hold ⌥, click Wi‑Fi in the menu bar and choose Open Wireless Diagnostics. It checks the connection and suggests fixes.

7. VPN and filters

A VPN, firewall or content filter can block traffic. Turn them off briefly to test.

Know right away

NotchMind, which I make, tells you in the notch when your Mac loses internet, even while Wi‑Fi still looks connected. See Wi‑Fi alerts.
