How to see the weather on a Mac at a glance

Ways to keep the weather in view on your Mac: the Weather app, desktop and Notification Centre widgets, and the MacBook notch, without sharing your location.

The Weather app

macOS has a Weather app with hourly and 10-day forecasts, maps and severe weather alerts. Open it from Applications or Spotlight.

Widgets

Click the date in the menu bar, choose Edit Widgets, and add Weather to Notification Centre or your desktop. Pick a size and a location.

The menu bar

macOS doesn’t put the weather in the menu bar itself. Some menu bar apps do; widgets are the built-in option.

The notch

NotchMind, which I make, has a Weather page on its Home in the notch: the temperature, conditions, feels-like, humidity, wind, and the next few days. You type your city once; it never asks for your location, and only the city name is sent to look up the weather. Switch between °C and °F with one click. See weather in the notch.

Location or no location?

Apple’s Weather and widgets can follow you using Location Services, which is handy when you travel. If you’d rather not share your location, pick a fixed city in either.
