How to set up Hot Corners on a Mac

Use the corners of your Mac's screen as shortcuts: Mission Control, desktop, lock screen, Quick Note and more, and how to stop triggering them by accident.

Hot Corners run an action when you push the pointer into a corner of the screen.

Set them up

  1. Open System Settings → Desktop & Dock.
  2. Scroll down and click Hot Corners.
  3. Pick an action for each corner: Mission Control, Application Windows, Desktop, Notification Centre, Launchpad, Quick Note, Start Screen Saver, Put Display to Sleep or Lock Screen.

Stop accidents

Hold a modifier while choosing an action, such as ⌘, and that corner only works while you hold the key.

The top centre

On a MacBook with a notch, the top centre of the screen is a fifth “corner” of sorts: notch apps open when you move the pointer there. NotchMind, which I make, opens on hover by default, or on click or press and hold if you’d rather not trigger it by accident. See notch gestures.
