Codex on a ChatGPT plan has usage limits over a rolling window of a few hours and over a week. Hitting one mid-task is annoying, so it pays to keep an eye on them.
Inside Codex
In the Codex CLI, /status shows your session details, and recent versions include how much of your limits you’ve used. It’s the quickest check, with nothing to install.
Your ChatGPT account
Your ChatGPT account’s settings show Codex usage for your plan. Use it for anything that matters for billing.
Live in the notch
NotchMind, which I make, shows Codex in the MacBook notch while it works: the task, its latest steps, the lines it changed, and bars for how much of your 5-hour and weekly limits you’ve used. When Codex finishes its turn, the notch tells you. The AI Usage page on Home adds tokens used today and over 30 days.
NotchMind reads this from the session logs Codex keeps in ~/.codex on your Mac. There’s no login or API key, and nothing is sent anywhere. See coding agents in the notch.
Estimates vs your bill
Numbers read from local logs are estimates. If you also use Codex on other computers or in the cloud, your account’s figures are the ones that count.
